February 2023 Maine Bar Exam – Updating Applicant Information

If you are an applicant for the February 2023 exam and need to provide any additional information to our office or update your application, please do so through the portal.

To update your application, please follow the steps listed below:

      • In a word document, type the question and the question number at the top of the page.
      • Type your answer directly below the question.
      • Once you have provided all information, please print your name and sign the document, scan the document and upload it to your portal through the “Application Files” tab in your portal.
      • You must then send a message to our office through the portal letting us know that you have uploaded a new document to add to your application.

February 2023 Maine Bar Exam

In order to apply for the exam, applicants must review the instructions and submit an application through the applicant portal at the following links:

3.  Applicant Portal for February 2023 Exam Applicants

In addition to completing the application through the applicant portal, applicants must print off, sign and notarize the forms below, upload each completed form to the applicant portal and mail the originals with the application fee to our office.

4.  Social Security Disclosure Form.

5.  Authorization and Release Form. *Upload one completed Authorization and Release Form to the applicant portal and mail three originals to our office with the proper application fee.*

6. Application Signature Page.

The applicant portal has been created to provide applicants with a more hands one experience.  Since the portal is new and a work-in-progress, maintenance will be occurring from time to time.  When this happens, a notice will be placed on the website informing applications as to the time period in which the maintenance will occur.

Application Deadlines for February 2023 Exam

OCTOBER 15, 2022 – DECEMBER 20, 2022

The Maine Board of Bar Examiners will receive all applications for the February 2023 bar exam up until 5:00 pm on December 20, 2022. There will be no option to pay a late fee and submit an application after December 20, 2022. This change is made pursuant to Maine Bar Admission Rule 6(3)(b) and applies to all exam applications and testing accommodation applications.

The February 2023 Maine Bar Examination will be administered in-person on February 21-February 22, 2023 at the DoubleTree by Hilton in South Portland, Maine. Our office will begin accepting applications through our new applicant portal on October 15, 2022 for the February 2023 exam.  Prior to October 15th, instructions on how to use the applicant portal will be available on our website.


In accordance with Maine Bar Admissions Rule 10(c)(3), the Maine Board of Bar Examiners, at its January 2020 Board meeting, set the passing scaled score for future bar examinations at 270. The reduction in cut score is prospective only.

Maine will accept concurrent applications from examinees sitting for the UBE in another jurisdiction. Applicants must still apply as if taking the Maine bar exam, but do not have to sit in Maine if sitting for an exam in another UBE jurisdiction (for the same exam administration).
